Misty Meadows U-Pick Flowers

Summer - Fall 2026

Blooming at North Star Farm, 595 Franklin Heights, Franklin, NY.

Come wander rows of raised flower beds and open wildflower paths from 9am to sunset as you create your own hand-picked bouquet. After checking in at the Flower Farm Stand, you’ll choose blooms from raised beds of specialty flowers and surrounding wildflower fields, with winding paths that lead toward the blueberry fields.

From June through October (weather and blooms permitting), you’ll find favorites like snapdragons, zinnias, cosmos, sunflowers, and more—fresh, colorful, and perfect for your table or a special moment.

North Star Farm is also home to organic u-pick blueberries, available for picking from July to August, making it easy to pair flower picking with a stroll through the berry fields and a taste of peak season.

Bring your friends, your curiosity, and your appreciation for slow mornings and golden-hour light.
I’ll take care of the flowers. - Jessica

Here is what you need to know about a u-pick experience at Misty Meadows Flower Farm:

Before Your Visit

  • Attire:
Wear comfortable shoes, sandals, or farm boots — the rows are grassy and uneven in spots. If you come early, expect some dew (and slippery patches). A hat helps keep the sun and bugs off, while sunglasses, a water bottle, bug spray, and sunscreen may make your visit more enjoyable.

  • Pruners & Gloves:
I provide pruners for you to use, but if you have a favorite pair, feel free to bring them along. Some stems can be scratchy or a bit sappy, so gloves are also a good idea if you prefer to keep your hands clean and comfortable.

  • Family-Friendly:
Misty Meadows is family-friendly, but please remember it’s also a working farm — there’s equipment, uneven ground, and plenty of bugs. Children must be supervised at all times, and only adults may carry and use flower pruners.

  • Mother Nature:
We have bugs, and we love them! Some are helpful, some… not so much, but all play a role in our little ecosystem. If a bee lands nearby, stay calm — it’ll move along soon. I’ve been tending these blooms for years and have never been stung. (Japanese beetles, though? You have my full permission to squish those!)

  • Vase Life Tip:
For the longest-lasting blooms, cut flowers in the cool of morning (before noon) or in the early evening (after 5 p.m.). Midday heat can make them wilt faster, so if you do pick midday, just give them extra time to perk up in water once you get home. See flower care tips below!

See you soon in the flower field — I can’t wait to watch you wander, snip, and create your perfect bouquet!

Cutting & Enjoying Your Flowers

  • Check in & pay at the Flower Farmstand. Pick what size vessel you want to use and some pruners for cutting.

  • Follow the Signs:
Each bed has clear signs with cutting instructions — if I am in the garden, feel free to ask me lots of questions! Signs include the flower’s name, symbolism, and any special tips for cutting or care.

  • What to Cut:
Take your time and explore! Decide if you want a wide variety of blooms or a specific color scheme.

  • Enjoy the Space:
Picnic tables are scattered throughout the farm so you can sit, take a break, and enjoy the scenery during or after your visit. Bring a snack, drink, or even a picnic lunch if you like! Snaps some photos and tag us: @mistymeadowsflowerfarm @thenorthstarfarm

  • Bathroom:
A porta-potty is available for your convenience.

  • Slow Down & Restore:
Take a deep breath, wander slowly through the rows, and let the colors, scents, and quiet of the flowers restore you. This is your time to reconnect with nature and let the farm work its magic.

A Note on Filling Your Cup or Bucket:
I don’t ask you to count stems — this experience is about joy, not stress! Please respect the value of the flowers and avoid overstuffing your container. Make sure all stems are in the water so your blooms stay fresh and beautiful.

After Your Visit

Driving Home:
Keep your flowers happy! Avoid leaving them in a hot car and try to shield them from direct sunlight. Flowers love a gentle breeze from the A/C — not wind blasting across their petals.

Vase Prep:
Clean water and a clean vase are key to long-lasting blooms. Wash your vase thoroughly with hot, soapy water before adding your flowers. Stems act like straws, and any bacteria in the water can block them from drinking properly, shortening their vase life.

Cutting & Arranging:

  • Give the stems a fresh cut at a 45-degree angle before placing them in the vase — this maximizes water uptake.

  • Remove any leaves that would sit below the water line; they can create bacteria and cloud the water.

Maintenance:

  • Remove any spent blooms as they appear.

  • Change the water every 2–3 days and recut the stems at the bottom.

  • Keep flowers out of direct sunlight and away from fruit to help them last longer.

Bring the Farm Home:
Studies have shown that having fresh flowers in your home can lift moods, reduce stress, and boost creativity — so enjoy your bouquet as a little slice of Misty Meadows magic every day!

U-pick FAQ’s

  • 9am–Sunset, 7 days a week (weather permitting)

Check social media for farm and weather updates before visiting or email Jessica at contact@mistymeadowsflowerfarm.com to confirm details for visiting.

Flowers have the best vase life if cut in the morning (before 12 pm) or late evening (after 5 pm).

If you cut during the heat of the day they will need more time to recover from midday wilt. If your flowers wilt - don’t give up! Just give the stems a fresh cut, set them in a cool place with lots of clean water, and they should recover by the next day.

  • Absolutely! Misty Meadows and North Star Farm are family-friendly, and I love seeing little ones discover the magic of flowers and blueberries. Watching kids pick their first stem or find that perfect berry is one of the sweetest parts of summer.

That said, the flower field isn’t a playground, so please keep children with you at all times and don’t allow them to run through the beds. For safety reasons, only adults may use the pruners in the flower field.

Please help me keep the flowers, blueberries, and the farm beautiful for everyone — any unsupervised or destructive behavior may result in being asked to leave. Thank you for helping create a safe, joyful space for all ages to explore and enjoy.

P.S. Stay tuned for upcoming children’s workshops and special Mommy & Me days — designed to let your little ones play, learn, and create alongside you in the flower fields!

  • Sorry, but the answer is no. We love animals—but to protect our flowers, North Star blueberry bushes, sheep, farm dogs & cats, and other guests staying on the farm, we do not allow pets on the farm. Thank you for understanding and helping us keep the fields safe, clean, and peaceful for everyone.

  • Absolutely! Misty Meadows Flower Farm and North Star Farm are working farms, but we love sharing their beauty.
To help maintain the flowers and grounds, I ask for a $5 “Stroll & Snap” pass per person (ages 10+). Kids under 10 are free with an adult.

Your support keeps the farm blooming beautifully for everyone to enjoy!

Pick organic blueberries in season (mid-July to mid-August), join us for Saturday morning yoga, or take part in one of our hands-on workshops held throughout the summer.

Picnic tables are scattered around the property — bring a snack, sip something cold, and listen to the birds, crickets, and the occasional frog serenade from the pond.

Please help keep the farm beautiful by packing out any trash when you leave — our dogs, cats, sheep, and wildlife appreciate your care as much as I do.
